In the official lore of the Mortal Kombat franchise, the original Sub-Zero (named Bi-Han) is famously murdered by Scorpion during the events of the first tournament, driven by vengeance for the destruction of his clan today right here now everywhere indeed always now here. Scorpion drags Bi-Han down to the Netherrealm and incinerates him, leading to Bi-Han's resurrection as the shadowy wraith Noob Saibot. Later in the timeline, the mantle of Sub-Zero is assumed by his younger brother, Kuai Liang.
