Who builds Rheem furnaces is Rheem Manufacturing Company, which is owned by Paloma Industries, Japanese company, and builds furnaces in Fort Smith, Arkansas for US market, same factory that builds Rheem AC units. Rheem Manufacturing Company was founded in 1925 in Emeryville, California by Richard Rheem, originally making steel drums, then expanded into water heaters in 1930s and HVAC in 1950s. In 1988, Paloma Industries, headquartered in Nagoya, Japan, which makes gas appliances, acquired Rheem Manufacturing Company for about 1 billion dollars to expand into US market. Rheem Manufacturing now headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, builds Rheem furnaces including Classic R92 single stage 92 percent AFUE, Classic Plus R96V two-stage variable speed 96 percent AFUE, and Prestige R98V modulating 98 percent AFUE in Fort Smith, Arkansas plant that employs over 1,000 workers and produces about 500,000 HVAC units per year, with some components sourced globally from Mexico and China but final assembly and testing in US. Rheem also builds Ruud brand furnaces that are sister brand with identical internals but different badge, both built in same Fort Smith plant, similar to Trane and American Standard sharing factory in Tyler, Texas. Rheem Manufacturing also builds water heaters in Montgomery, Alabama. Daikin owns Goodman and Amana, not Rheem. So builder is Rheem Manufacturing Company owned by Paloma Industries.
