Which Zinsser is best? Which Zinsser is best depends on job. For severe stains and odors like smoke, fire, pet urine, nicotine, and water stains, Zinsser B-I-N shellac-based primer is considered best, strongest stain and odor blocker, dries fast in 45 minutes, excellent for knots and tannin. For general all-purpose interior and exterior priming with good adhesion on many surfaces including glossy, Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 water-based is best all-rounder, low odor, easy cleanup, good for drywall, wood, masonry, metal. For heavy-duty oil-based stain blocking on interior and exterior wood, Zinsser Cover Stain oil-based is best for tannin, smoke, and water stains with oil performance. For multi-surface exterior with primer and topcoat in one, Zinsser AllCoat is best. For mold-prone areas, Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus or Mold Killing Primer is best. So no single best, B-I-N for worst stains and odors, 1-2-3 for versatile everyday, Cover Stain for oil-based heavy stains, AllCoat for exterior multi-surface. Choose based on stain severity, surface, odor, and interior versus exterior needs.
