CLR (Calcium, Lime, and Rust) works much faster and is significantly more powerful than white vinegar at dissolving heavy, rock-hard mineral scale and severe rust buildup on plumbing fixtures due to its concentrated chemical acid formulation. However, standard household white vinegar is much safer, non-toxic, gentle on rubber seals and chrome finishes, and significantly less expensive for routine maintenance and moderate cleaning tasks. Verification: Inspect the fixture surface after descaling to confirm all mineral deposits have dissolved completely.
