Which liquid is used to make foam depends on foam type, but generally foam is made from liquid polymers and blowing agents that create bubbles, with common liquids including polyol and isocyanate for polyurethane foam, latex liquid for latex foam, and styrene for polystyrene foam, similar to mixing components for organized compound. For polyurethane foam, two liquids are used, polyol and diisocyanate such as MDI or TDI, which when mixed react and expand with blowing agent like water or chemical blowing agent creating foam structure. For memory foam, which is type of polyurethane foam, same liquids plus additives for viscoelastic properties. For latex foam, liquid latex from rubber tree or synthetic latex liquid is whipped with air and vulcanized. For soap foam or cleaning foam, liquid is dish soap or detergent mixed with water and air to create bubbles. For spray foam insulation, two liquid components A-side isocyanate and B-side polyol with blowing agent, catalysts, and flame retardants are mixed at nozzle to expand into foam. For simple foam at home, liquid dish soap and water whisked creates foam. So liquid used to make foam is polyol and isocyanate for polyurethane, liquid latex for latex foam, and soap and water for cleaning foam, with blowing agent liquid creating gas bubbles to form cellular structure.
