In an LG front load washing machine, the drain filter, also called the drain pump filter or coin trap, is located at the bottom left corner on the front of the machine behind a small rectangular or square access door. To access it, you first need to turn off and unplug the washer for safety and have towels and a shallow pan ready because water will come out. Open the access cover by pressing down on the cover or using a flat screwdriver to pop it open. Inside you will see a black drain hose with a plug and a round filter knob. First, pull out the small drain hose, remove its plug, and drain the residual water into the pan. Once water stops, twist the large round filter counterclockwise to unscrew it and pull it out. The filter will often contain lint, coins, hair, small socks, buttons, and debris that block the pump. Clean it thoroughly under running water, check inside the filter housing with a flashlight for obstructions, then reinsert and twist clockwise to tighten securely, re-plug the drain hose, and close the access door.
