The internal defrost drain on a standard residential frost-free refrigerator is located at the center bottom of the inner back wall of the freezer compartment, hidden directly beneath the evaporator cooling coils behind the interior access panel. During automated defrost cycles, melted water from the coils drips into a collection trough and flows straight into this drain opening, traveling down a rubber tube into the evaporation pan sitting near the compressor. You can troubleshoot drainage blockages easily by removing freezer shelves and the back panel. You can verify that you have located the defrost drain when seeing the drain trough and inserting a cleaning tool clears any ice or debris, allowing water to flow unimpeded out of the compartment.
