Water that enters the internal defrost drain hole during automated refrigeration defrost cycles travels downward through a flexible rubber drain tube running down the back exterior of the appliance cabinet. This tube empties directly into a shallow plastic evaporation pan positioned near the bottom rear of the refrigerator, right above or beside the warm compressor motor housing. Ambient room air circulation combined with heat generated by the running compressor causes the collected water in the pan to evaporate safely into the room. You can troubleshoot evaporation issues easily by inspecting the rear drip tray. You can verify that your drainage path is working correctly when water travels smoothly from the freezer drain hole down into the evaporation pan without overflowing onto your kitchen floor.
