Schneider Electric is headquartered in Rueil-Malmaison, France, which is a suburb just west of Paris in the Hauts-de-Seine department, though it is often described as headquartered in Paris for simplicity. Schneider Electric was originally founded in 1836 in Le Creusot, France, by brothers Adolphe and Joseph-Eugene Schneider as a steel and armaments company, and over nearly 190 years it evolved into a global leader in energy management and automation. Its global headquarters in Rueil-Malmaison houses executive leadership, corporate functions, and strategic operations for its worldwide business that employs over 150,000 people and operates more than 200 factories globally. Schneider Electric also has significant regional headquarters including Boston, Massachusetts, for North America where its Square D brand is headquartered, and other regional hubs in Asia and Europe. The Rueil-Malmaison headquarters is located at 35 rue Joseph Monier in Rueil-Malmaison, France, and is the legal and corporate center of the company which is publicly traded on the Euronext Paris stock exchange. Despite its French headquarters, Schneider operates as a truly global company with major operations in North America selling Square D QO and Homeline panels at Home Depot and Lowes.
