The Ecobee3 Lite smart thermostat was officially released to the consumer market in September 2016, serving as a streamlined, budget-friendly companion to the original Ecobee3. By removing built-in remote room sensors from the standard retail box and slightly modifying auxiliary accessory terminals, Ecobee created a lower-cost hardware tier that remained a cornerstone of their residential smart thermostat lineup for many years.
