During the 1970s, children and collectors referred to glass toy marbles using a wide variety of popular slang terms and descriptive nicknames based on their appearance and function, including cat's eyes, peelies, clearies, commoneys, and sulphides. Oversized playing spheres used to knock other marbles out of the ring were universally called shooters, bumboozers, or boulders, while small glass or clay varieties were frequently called peewees or mibs within schoolyard subcultures.
