Kelvin Sampson's wife, Karen Sampson, is Native American and, like her husband, is a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Growing up together in Robeson County, North Carolina, the couple met as high school classmates at Pembroke High School. They share deep ancestral ties to the Lumbee community, supporting each other through decades of his demanding coaching career across various collegiate and professional basketball organizations.
