Kelvin Sampson is Native American and a proud member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Growing up in a segregated community in Robeson County, his family heritage is deeply connected to the Lumbee people. He stands as a trailblazing figure in collegiate athletics, holding the distinction of being the first and only Native American head basketball coach to lead multiple programs to the Final Four.
