Strictly speaking, no common structural metal is entirely immune to all forms of chemical oxidation, but several precious and specialized metals are classified as highly corrosion-resistant and will never rust in the traditional sense because they do not contain iron. Gold, platinum, palladium, and rhodium do not oxidize or rust when exposed to air and moisture. Additionally, titanium and aluminum form a microscopic, self-healing protective oxide surface layer that prevents deep corrosion, while stainless steel resists rust significantly better than regular carbon steel.
