While the periodic table contains roughly 94 naturally occurring elements up to plutonium, they are not all classified as metals. Chemically, the periodic table categorizes elements into alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, post-transition metals, lanthanides, and actinides, alongside nonmetals and metalloids. In total, more than 80 elements on the periodic table exhibit metallic properties, ranging from common structural metals like iron and aluminum to rare earth elements and heavy radioactive actinides synthesized in advanced physics laboratories.
