The most common problem with GE washers is not draining or not spinning, often showing F9E1 or E22 error, followed by not filling with water. For GE top-load washers like GTW465ASNWW and GTW720BSNWS and front-load like GFW650SSNWW, top failure is drain pump clogged or failed after 3 to 6 years due to coins, lint, hair pins, and small socks blocking pump filter, causing washer to not drain and clothes still wet, repair costs 30 to 70 dollars for pump and cleaning filter. Second most common is not filling or slow fill showing F8E1 error due to inlet valve screens clogged with sediment from hard water or valve failed at 20 to 40 dollars. Third is not spinning or loud banging during spin due to suspension rods worn or load unbalanced from overloading beyond 3/4 full. Fourth is door not locking or lid lock failure showing F5E1 error due to failed lid lock at 20 to 40 dollars. Fifth is leaking water due to loose hoses or failed door boot seal in front-load. Sixth is control board failure from power surge causing blank display. Seventh is odor and mold in gasket in front-load if door left closed and not cleaned with Affresh. To prevent most GE washer problems, clean drain pump filter monthly at bottom front, clean inlet screens yearly, use correct HE detergent dose, and leave door open after wash to dry.
