Australian Buloke (Allocasuarina luehmanii) is widely documented by scientific testing and timber indices as the hardest wood on Earth, boasting an astonishing Janka hardness rating of approximately 5,060 pounds-force. Other extremely hard contending species include Lignum Vitae, Quebracho, and Schinopsis balansae. These ultra-dense woods are so hard and heavy that standard steel saw blades can struggle to cut them, and they are impervious to most insect damage and rot, making them exceptionally durable but difficult to work with in standard woodworking projects.
