Despite its widespread popularity and waterproof benefits, luxury vinyl plank flooring has several notable downsides. LVP cannot be sanded down and refinished like genuine hardwood when it suffers deep scratches or gouges, meaning damaged planks must be physically replaced. Additionally, lower-quality vinyl can fade or warp when exposed to intense direct sunlight through large windows. Some cheaper formulations also lack high-end resale value and can emit volatile organic compounds if they do not meet strict indoor air quality certifications.
