Mold can indeed grow underneath luxury vinyl plank flooring if moisture manages to seep through unsealed perimeter gaps, un caulked bathroom edges, or subfloor cracks from plumbing leaks or high humidity. While LVP planks themselves are 100% waterproof and will not support mold growth on top, trapped moisture against a porous subfloor—such as plywood or concrete—creates a dark, damp environment where mold and mildew thrive. Ensuring proper subfloor drying, using vapor barriers, and sealing room perimeters prevents this issue.
