Rigid mentality is mindset characterized by inflexible thinking, resistance to change, strict adherence to beliefs and routines, black-and-white thinking, and difficulty adapting to new information or perspectives, similar to fixed storage that cannot be reconfigured. Rigid mentality means person sees world in absolute terms, right or wrong, good or bad, with little tolerance for ambiguity or gray areas, and believes there is only one correct way to do things. People with rigid mentality often have strong need for control, order, and predictability, becoming anxious when plans change or when confronted with different viewpoints, and they may insist on own rules and standards for self and others. For example, rigid mentality at work may show as unwilling to consider new methods, insisting on old processes even when inefficient, and in personal life as needing exact routines and becoming upset if disrupted. Cognitive aspects include all-or-nothing thinking, catastrophizing if not perfect, and difficulty with problem-solving that requires flexibility. So rigid mentality is inflexible, closed-minded thinking pattern that resists change, holds strict beliefs, and struggles with adaptability, leading to stress and conflict, opposite of flexible, open-minded mentality that embraces change and diverse perspectives.
