An example of efficiency can be seen in many everyday situations, for instance using LED light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs is a classic energy efficiency example. An old incandescent bulb converts only about 10 percent of electricity into light and wastes 90 percent as heat, while an LED converts about 90 percent into light and wastes only 10 percent as heat, producing the same brightness using 10 watts instead of 60 watts. Another example is carpooling, if four people ride in one car to work instead of driving four separate cars, you use one quarter of the fuel, produce one quarter of the pollution, and save parking space while achieving the same goal of getting everyone to work. In a kitchen, washing dishes by filling a basin with soapy water and washing all at once is more efficient than leaving water running continuously. In business, an efficient factory might use assembly line organization to produce 100 units per hour with 10 workers, while an inefficient factory produces only 50 units with the same workers due to poor layout and wasted movements. Each example shows achieving the same useful output with less input and less waste.
