A bee's worst enemy includes natural predators, parasites, pesticides, and environmental threats, with Varroa mite considered one of worst enemies for honeybees. Natural predators include birds like bee eaters that specialize in eating bees, catching them in flight, spiders that catch bees in webs, reptiles like lizards, amphibians like frogs, and mammals like bears and badgers that raid hives for honey and larvae, and insects like robber flies, dragonflies, and praying mantises that prey on bees. Parasites like Varroa destructor mite is devastating enemy for honeybees, as mite feeds on bee blood and spreads viruses that weaken and kill colonies, causing colony collapse, and is considered major threat to beekeeping worldwide. Other enemies include small hive beetle and wax moth that damage hives. Pesticides, especially neonicotinoids, are major human caused enemy that poison bees and affect navigation and reproduction. Habitat loss and lack of flowers due to monoculture farming reduces food. Diseases like American foulbrood bacterial disease kill larvae. Among these, Varroa mite is often called bee's worst enemy for managed honeybees due to widespread damage and difficulty to control, while for wild bees habitat loss and pesticides are worst. Environmental threats like climate change also affect bees.
