Common problems associated with laminate flooring include moisture damage, edge swelling, scratching, and hollow sound transmission. If water penetrates the seams of laminate boards, the wood-composite fiberboard core expands permanently and ruins the plank. Additionally, laminate cannot be sanded or refinished like real wood when surface wear occurs, and it can sound noisy or click loudly under heavy foot traffic if an appropriate acoustic underlayment is not installed beneath it.
