If your plastic toilet refill tube (the thin hose running from the fill valve to the overflow pipe) is too long and kinks or bends sharply when you replace the tank lid, you should trim it. Pull the tube off the nipple, measure it so it extends just about 1/2 inch to 1 inch down inside the top opening of the overflow tube without dangling too deep or kinking, and use sharp utility scissors to cut off the excess length cleanly. Verification: Reattach the trimmed tube and check that the tank lid closes fully without pinching or bending the hose.
