If your bathtub drain basket and flange are severely corroded, you must replace the entire drain assembly. Insert a specialized tub wrench or plier handles into the drain crossbars and turn counterclockwise to unthread the corroded strainer from the waste shoe. Clean away old plumber's putty from the brass shoe, apply fresh silicone or putty, and thread a brand-new metal drain basket into place. Callout type="warning" title="Hygiene Warning": Wear heavy work gloves to protect your hands from sharp corroded metal edges. Verification: Test the drain by filling the tub and confirming zero leaks underneath.
