Both traditional wax rings and modern waxless rubber/foam seals have distinct advantages. Traditional wax rings are inexpensive, highly reliable when compressed correctly, and have been the trusted industry standard for decades. Modern waxless seals (made of durable rubber or foam) are cleaner to install, can be repositioned multiple times if alignment is off, and are unaffected by extreme bathroom temperature fluctuations that can sometimes soften traditional wax. Both options provide an excellent watertight seal when installed on a rigid floor flange. Verification: Check that the seal makes full, compressed contact between the porcelain bowl horn and the floor flange.
