Pulling a stuck Moen Posi-Temp cartridge requires a methodical approach to avoid damaging the brass valve body. First, shut off the main water supply to your home and open the shower handle to drain residual pressure. Remove the decorative handle and escutcheon plate, then extract the metal horseshoe-shaped retaining clip from the top of the valve housing. Attach the plastic twisting tool included with your replacement cartridge onto the stem, rotate it back and forth to break free from mineral scale, and pull straight out. If stubborn, use a specialized cartridge-pulling tool.
