You can flip a Moen Posi-Temp cartridge 180 degrees during installation if your hot and cold water supply lines happen to be reversed coming out of the wall. However, you cannot flip the cartridge backward or upside down in a standard orientation, as the alignment notch on the stem must point correctly to ensure proper temperature mixing. Reversing the cartridge 180 degrees corrects hot and cold orientation issues when supply plumbing is crossed, restoring accurate temperature control to the shower handle.
