Getting rid of ants overnight completely is difficult because colonies contain thousands of workers and a queen hidden in walls or outdoors, and permanent elimination takes days to two weeks with baits, but you can significantly reduce visible ants overnight with intensive steps. For fastest overnight reduction, start with thorough sanitation to remove food sources, clean all crumbs, grease, and spills in kitchen, store all food in sealed glass or metal containers, wipe down countertops with 50-50 white vinegar and water to erase pheromone trails that odorous house ants follow, and take out trash and clean pet food bowls. Then seal obvious entry points temporarily with caulk or tape around windows and doors. For immediate visible ant removal, spray visible ants with soapy water made from one tablespoon Dawn dish soap and one quart water which kills on contact within seconds and wipes away trails, rather than using repellent sprays that cause budding where colonies split. Then place highly attractive slow-acting gel baits such as Terro Liquid Ant Bait containing borax near trails but not directly on top of repellent sprays, allowing worker ants to eat bait and carry it back to the colony overnight to start killing queen and larvae, though full colony death takes days. For carpenter ants, locate and remove damp wood if possible. Vacuum floors and under appliances to remove food residues. While you may see far fewer ants by morning, complete elimination requires patience to let baits work and ongoing prevention, so for severe infestations consider professional pest control with commercial-grade baits.
