A standard 12x12-foot room with eight-foot ceilings has roughly 384 square feet of wall space to cover. Since most high-quality primers yield about 300 to 400 square feet per gallon, a single gallon of primer is generally enough to apply one solid coat across the entire room. Purchasing a standard single gallon will safely cover the walls, with a little extra left over for touch-ups or priming trim work.
