Typically, one coat of Zinsser primer is more than sufficient for general surface sealing, standard color changes, and routine drywall preparation. However, if you are tackling severe challenges such as dark color transitions, heavy water stains, stubborn smoke damage, or raw wood knots prone to tannin bleed, applying two coats of primer is strongly recommended to guarantee complete protection and prevent bleed-through.
