Kinetic sand has an exceptionally long lifespan and can last for many years, often indefinitely, provided it is stored and handled correctly under dry conditions. Because it is coated with a non-drying silicone oil rather than water, it does not dry out or harden when exposed to open air like traditional modeling clay or play dough. However, its longevity can be compromised if it becomes heavily contaminated with household dust, pet hair, moisture, or lint, which alters its unique tactile texture and causes the grains to lose their characteristic flowing cohesiveness.
