It takes about 30 to 60 minutes to burn off a new LG oven, plus cooling time, to remove factory oils, protective coatings, and insulation odors before first use. LG recommends performing a burn-in or burn-off cycle before cooking food. The procedure is: first, remove all packaging, racks, manuals, and plastic film from inside the oven and storage drawer. Second, clean interior with warm soapy water and wipe dry, wash racks separately. Third, ensure kitchen is well ventilated by opening windows, turning on range hood to high, and opening doors, as the burn-off will produce smoke and chemical odor that can trigger smoke detectors. Fourth, set oven to Bake at 400 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 60 minutes with nothing inside and door closed. Some LG manuals recommend 400 degrees for 30 minutes, then Broil for 10 minutes to burn off broil element. You will see some smoke and smell, which is normal as protective oils on heating elements and insulation cure. After cycle completes, allow oven to cool completely for 1 to 2 hours, then wipe interior again with damp cloth to remove residue. If your model has Air Fry, run Air Fry at 400 degrees for 20 minutes as well. After burn-off, odor should be gone. If strong odor persists, repeat burn-off. Do not place food during burn-off and keep children and pets away due to fumes.
