How long it takes for a refrigerator to reset itself depends on the type of reset and the reason for resetting, but generally it takes 5 to 15 minutes for electronic reset and 24 to 48 hours for full temperature stabilization. For a hard power reset to clear error codes, control lock, or electronic glitches after a power outage, unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet or turn off the circuit breaker, leave it off for at least 5 to 10 minutes to allow the main control board and inverter board capacitors to fully discharge, then plug back in. The display will show PF for power failure, press confirm. The compressor may take 5 to 10 minutes to restart due to built-in delay to protect against short cycling. For temperature reset after moving or cleaning, after plugging back in, the refrigerator will take 2 to 4 hours to cool to safe temperature of 37 degrees Fahrenheit in fresh food section and 0 degrees in freezer, but full stabilization with food loaded takes 24 hours. For defrost system reset after a defrost issue, the refrigerator may take 24 to 48 hours to return to normal frost-free operation. For ice maker reset, press the reset button under ice maker and wait 2 to 3 minutes for chime, then allow 24 hours for first batch of ice. If refrigerator does not reset after 15 minutes or compressor never restarts, the control board or compressor inverter may have failed and requires service.
