The water depth at the Port of Shanghai varies depending on the specific terminal zone, ranging from about 10 to 14 meters across older river and estuarial docks like Waigaoqiao up to 15 to 17.5 meters at the offshore Yangshan Deep-Water Port terminal facilities. These deep-water berths and continuously dredged navigation channels allow the facility to safely accommodate, berth, and service the world's largest ultra-large container vessels and mega-class 3E-type container ships around the clock regardless of tidal variations.
