Does exterior mean outdoor?

Yes, exterior generally means outdoor or outside, as it refers to outer part, outer surface, or outside area, opposite of interior which means indoor or inside. Exterior means outside of something, so exterior of house is outside of house, which is outdoors, exterior walls are walls that face outdoors, exterior paint is paint for outdoors that withstands weather, exterior doors lead outdoors, exterior lighting is lighting outdoors. So exterior does mean outdoor in most contexts, especially in architecture and home design where interior means indoor inside house and exterior means outdoor outside house. However, exterior can be slightly broader than just outdoor, it can mean outer appearance or outer surface of any object, not necessarily outdoors, such as exterior of a box means outer surface of box which may be indoors, exterior of a car means outer body, but that outer body is outdoors when car is outside. In general everyday use, exterior is synonymous with outdoor or outside, and is used interchangeably with outdoor when talking about outside areas, as in exterior space equals outdoor space, exterior furniture equals outdoor furniture. So yes, exterior means outdoor or outside in most practical uses, especially for houses and buildings.
