Bed bugs do not live in your hair, unlike head lice, body lice, or pubic lice that live on humans and cling to hair, because bed bugs are environmental pests that hide in mattress seams, box springs, headboards, behind baseboards, and furniture joints within 5 to 8 feet of bed and only come to feed on exposed skin for 5 to 10 minutes at night then return to hiding, they do not burrow into skin or live on body. They do not have claws adapted to cling to hair like lice, and they prefer dark, undisturbed crevices rather than hair. While it is possible for a bed bug to crawl through hair briefly while searching for skin to feed, they will not stay or lay eggs in hair, and they will fall out or crawl away. If you feel crawling in hair at night, it is unlikely bed bugs, more likely lice, fleas, or anxiety related formication after discovering infestation. Bed bugs can hide in clothing seams and be transported on clothes, but not live in hair. If you have bed bugs in bed, showering will wash away any bugs crawling on you, but will not prevent future bites, as they live in bed. To prevent bed bugs, encase mattress and box spring in bed bug proof encasements, use interceptor traps, wash bedding on high heat, and contact professional pest control. If you suspect lice, see doctor, as treatment differs.
