Replacing a shower valve body without opening the wall is generally impossible unless you have an uncommonly accessible utility space, shaft, or access panel directly behind the shower plumbing. Because the heavy brass rough-in valve body, mounting brackets, and water supply sweat or threaded connections are permanently secured inside the wall cavity behind the tile or surround, a full valve body swap requires cutting an access opening. However, if you are only replacing the internal cartridge, trim kit, or handle assembly, that can easily be performed entirely from the front without disturbing the wall.
