Driving a vehicle with a leaking engine oil sump—commonly known as an oil pan—is extremely dangerous and strongly discouraged by automotive mechanics. The oil sump sits at the very bottom of the engine to hold the vital lubricating fluid required to keep moving metal parts from seizing due to friction and extreme heat. If the sump is leaking, oil levels will rapidly drop, leading to catastrophic engine overheating, internal bearing failure, scored cylinder walls, and permanent engine destruction. You should never drive until the leak is repaired and oil is refilled.
