Yes, you can fix a damaged sliding door track yourself for patio sliding doors, closet sliding doors, or barn doors, as track repair is generally DIY friendly and less dangerous than garage door track repair because doors are lighter. For patio sliding glass door track that is bent, dented, or dirty causing door to bind, first remove door by opening halfway and lifting up into top track, then pulling bottom out, with helper supporting weight of 50 to 100 pounds. Lay door on sawhorses. Inspect bottom track for dents, dirt, or rust that causes rollers to jump. For minor dents, straighten track with pliers or flathead screwdriver and hammer, tapping gently. Clean track thoroughly with vacuum to remove dirt, leaves, and debris, and scrub with soapy water. For badly damaged track, replace track or install track cover cap that fits over existing track, costing 20 to 50 dollars at Home Depot. Replace worn rollers on bottom of door, costing 10 to 30 dollars, as worn rollers cause track damage. For closet sliding door track that is bent, loosen screws and straighten with pliers, or replace track costing 15 to 30 dollars. After fixing track, reinstall door by lifting top into top track first then setting bottom rollers onto bottom track, adjusting roller height screws for clearance. Test sliding operation and lubricate track with silicone spray, not oil that attracts dirt. Keep tracks clean to prevent future damage.
