There have been no broad federal CPSC mandatory recalls that required LG top-loading washing machines to be returned, but there have been several service bulletins, class action settlements, and voluntary repair programs that function similarly to a recall. The most significant issue involved LG high-efficiency top-load models from the WT5000, WT7000, WT7500, and WT7800 series manufactured between 2010 and 2020 that were alleged to have excessive vibration, unbalanced load failures, and in some cases the top coming loose during high-speed spin. LG issued technical service bulletins and provided free reinforcement kits, updated control board software, and replacement suspension rods and leveling assistance to affected customers. Additionally, there was a separate voluntary recall-like program for certain LG top-load washers where the control board could overheat in rare cases. Customers who registered their model and serial number were offered free inspection and board replacement. While LG denied a systemic defect in litigation, it did extend warranty coverage and offer rebates. You can check if your specific model is affected by entering your serial number on the LG support website or on saferproducts.gov and by calling LG customer service at 1-800-243-0000.
