No, Pushmatic panels have never been formally recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, unlike some other problematic panels, but they are still considered outdated and recommended for replacement by many electricians and home inspectors. Pushmatic panels, also known as Bulldog Pushmatic panels, were manufactured from the 1950s to the 1980s by Bulldog Electric and later ITE and were widely installed in homes, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. While they have not been subject to a CPSC recall, they have known issues including stiff mechanisms that are difficult to reset, lack of clear trip indication, aging contacts that can weld together, and lack of modern safety features like arc fault protection. Their failure rate is not as high as Federal Pacific Stab-Lok or Zinsco panels, which are considered more hazardous, but Pushmatic panels are still old technology with limited breaker availability and typically only 100 amp capacity. Because there is no official recall, insurance companies may not automatically require replacement, but many home inspectors flag them as outdated and recommend budgeting for replacement with a modern panel from Square D, Eaton, or Siemens. So while not recalled, Pushmatic panels are considered obsolete and should be inspected regularly and replaced when doing major electrical upgrades.
