Ibex are naturally timid, wild mountain animals that generally avoid human contact and prefer to retreat up steep, inaccessible cliffs when approached. They are not naturally aggressive toward humans. However, during the autumn mating rut, male ibex can become territorial or unpredictable, and habituated animals in tourist-heavy regions can occasionally become bold if they associate humans with food handouts.
