A modern washing machine will generally refuse to start or operate if the lid lock mechanism is disconnected, broken, or bypassed. Manufacturers integrate electronic lid locks and mechanical safety switches as mandatory interlocks to prevent users from opening the spinning tub during high-speed extraction cycles, which poses severe injury risks. If the control board detects an open circuit or a failed lock signal from the latch assembly, it halts all operations, flashes an error code, or refuses to fill and agitate. While bypassing the switch manually can trick the machine into running, doing so eliminates crucial safety protections and is strongly discouraged.
