An automatic residential refrigerator ice maker may refuse to drop or harvest its ice cubes due to a jammed ice bin, a broken mold heating element, or a stripped internal drive gear module. During a normal harvest cycle, a small electric heater warms the bottom of the plastic mold tray just enough to release the ice cubes so the rotating harvest prongs can sweep them out into the storage bin. If this heater fails or if ice cubes fuse together into a solid block, the cubes remain trapped inside the tray. You can troubleshoot mechanical movement easily by triggering a manual test cycle. You can verify that your repair is successful when clearing jammed ice blocks, replacing a faulty heater module, or installing a new ice maker assembly restores automated ice dumping cycles.
