A sump pump running every 30 seconds is usually caused by massive groundwater inflow during heavy rainfall saturating foundation soils, or a failed check valve allowing water to recycle back into the pit. During severe downpours, perimeter drain tiles funnel water into the basin so quickly that the pit refills immediately after emptying. However, if this rapid cycling happens during dry weather, the check valve is broken. Verification: Check weather reports and inspect the check valve flow direction if rapid cycling occurs without rain.
