A sink that gurgles as it empties is suffering from restricted airflow within the drainage network, typically caused by a partial clog in the branch line or a blocked roof vent. As wastewater flows down the tailpiece, it pulls air behind it or compresses air ahead of it. If the roof vent cannot supply sufficient atmospheric air, the system pulls air bubbles up through your P-trap, creating the characteristic gurgling sound. Verification: Check whether other plumbing fixtures gurgle when simultaneous water is discharged.
