A garbage disposal leaks from the bottom primarily due to catastrophic failure of the internal mechanical shaft seal that protects the electric motor windings. Over years of operation, water exposure and mechanical wear compromise this waterproof seal, allowing water to leak past the spinning shaft and drip out of the bottom motor housing. Additionally, severe internal corrosion of the upper grinding chamber can cause water to seep downward past internal barriers into the lower casing. Verification: Confirm water is dripping from the center of the motor housing and plan for a complete disposal replacement.
