Paul Davis stopped making music primarily because he chose to step away from mainstream music industry and live a quieter life after achieving success, and later due to health and personal reasons. After hits in late 1970s and early 1980s like I Go Crazy and 65 Love Affair, Davis became disillusioned with demands of touring, industry pressures, and wanted to focus on family and life in Mississippi rather than constant promotion. He largely retired from recording and touring in late 1980s, returning to Meridian, Mississippi, where he lived privately and occasionally wrote songs but did not seek spotlight. He also experienced health issues and was less active in performing. In 1986, he was shot in a robbery attempt, which affected him. By late 1980s and 1990s, he had essentially retired from commercial music business, preferring privacy over fame. He passed away in 2008 from heart attack. So his stopping was not due to single event but combination of personal choice to leave industry, desire for private life, and health considerations.
