The athletic department at the University of Hawaii underwent a series of branding and identity shifts regarding its team monikers to streamline athletic marketing and establish unified consistency across its various sports programs. For a period, university leadership decided to separate men's and women's athletic identities, designating men's teams simply as the Warriors while women competed as the Rainbow Wahine. However, following extensive feedback from alumni, student-athletes, and supporters who cherished the historic imagery, the university officially restored the classic Rainbow Warriors name for major men's programs.
